On the way up, if you decide the hike is too strenuous or too steep, no worries, turn around wherever and whenever you want. On the other end of the spectrum, if you hike fast, you might decide to hike to the second or third peak. (See logo). Up there you'll pick your way along a ridgeline. Unlike on the Flattop trail, up there, you'll likely be alone. However fast or high you hike, if it's a clear day, the great views provide a reward for every footstep.
